How to Make Your Android Phone Last Longer Than One Day
As our reliance on smartphones grows, the need to extend battery life becomes increasingly important. Seeing my phone’s battery drain in less than 24 hours was always a challenge for me. This changed when I turned off a few less useful settings. Now, my phone remains a reliable companion from morning to night and beyond. If your device also struggles to last longer, here are a few settings you should adjust.
Put Unused Apps to Sleep
Unused apps running in the background can drain your battery significantly. By putting these apps to sleep, you can conserve power.
- For Samsung Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app and navigate to Battery > Background Usage Limits. Tap on “Deep Sleeping Apps,” click the ‘+’ icon, select the apps you want to add, and tap “Add.”
- For Pixel Phones: Open the battery settings, tap “Battery Usage,” locate the app you want to manage, and disable “Allow Background Activity.”
Disable Always-On Display
The always-on display feature is convenient but consumes power by keeping a portion of your screen active. Turning it off can extend your battery life.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to “Lock Screen and AOD,” and turn off “Always On Display.”
Adjust Screen Timeout
Reducing the screen timeout duration ensures your phone’s display turns off more quickly when not in use, saving battery power.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open “Settings,” navigate to Display > Screen Timeout, and select a shorter duration like 30 seconds.
Adjust Refresh Rate
High refresh rates provide smoother visuals but consume more battery. Lowering the refresh rate can help conserve power.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open Settings, go to Display > Motion Smoothness, select “Standard,” and tap “Apply.”
Use the Power Saving Mode
Power saving mode reduces screen brightness, limits background activity, and disables features like vibration and always-on display, extending battery life.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to “Battery,” and toggle on “Power Saving.” Customize its settings to suit your needs.
Turn Off Wi-Fi Scanning
Wi-Fi scanning continuously searches for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off, draining your battery. Disabling it can help conserve power.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to Location > Location Services, and turn off “Wi-Fi Scanning.”
Disable Location Services
Location services, while useful, can continuously drain your battery. Disabling unnecessary location services can help save power.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to Location > Location Services, tap on each service, and turn off its toggle.
Optimize Battery Usage for Power-Hungry Apps
Some apps consume more battery than others. Identifying and managing these apps can reduce power consumption.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to Device Care > Battery, and see which apps consume the most battery. Adjust their settings accordingly.

Enable Adaptive Brightness
Adaptive brightness automatically adjusts your screen brightness based on ambient light, saving battery life.
- For Galaxy Phones: Open the Settings app, go to “Display,” and turn on “Adaptive Brightness.”
By adjusting these settings, you can significantly reduce unnecessary power consumption and help your phone last longer on a single charge. While these adjustments won’t guarantee that your phone will last more than a day, they will improve battery life and reduce the frequency of charging, ultimately benefiting your battery’s health.
