Surprise Peek: Apple’s Early Dark Apple Watch Design Revealed in New Images

Apple had some different plans for the Apple Watch Ultra! New images from FCC filings show an early version with a dark ceramic back. This secret design, spotted by @ParrotSWD on X and shared by 9to5Mac, didn’t make it to the final release.

Before launching a new device, tech companies, including Apple, have to spill the beans to the FCC. The early Apple Watch Ultra prototype, documented in September 2022, had a cool dark ceramic back and a unique plastic-looking button. However, these cool features didn’t make it to the watch we know today.

Usually, these filings have a secrecy rule, but it seems the secret’s out now. Recent images reveal Apple’s original design, and it’s probably because the confidentiality rule expired.
