Telegram Empowers Creators with New Paid Subscriptions and Direct Support Features
Telegram is expanding its monetization options for content creators by introducing new features designed to boost earnings on the platform. The messaging app now offers monthly paid subscriptions, allowing users to access exclusive content through in-app digital currency, Stars. This new feature lets creators charge for premium content, providing early or extra access similar to services like Patreon.
With the new update, creators can generate invite links for users to join a channel in exchange for a monthly fee paid in Stars. These Stars can be converted into Toncoin cryptocurrency or used to subsidize ads. While Telegram will take a commission from these transactions, the specific percentage has yet to be disclosed.

Additionally, Telegram is rolling out Star Reactions, enabling users to show their support for creators directly through this feature. Unlike with subscriptions, creators receive 100% of the Stars from Star Reactions, making it an appealing option for fan engagement. This feature is similar to YouTube’s “Super Thanks” and X’s “Tips,” providing another way for fans to financially support their favorite creators.
These updates continue Telegram’s push to help creators generate revenue. Recently, the platform introduced paid content sharing within channels and started sharing ad revenue with creators. With 950 million active users as of last month, Telegram aims to surpass 1 billion users this year. The company is also on track to achieve profitability by next year and is considering a public offering.
